Bike Riders Must Know The Rules Of The Road

Like automobile drivers, bicyclists are required to know and follow the rules of the road:

* Bike riders should stay as close as possible to the right-hand curb;

* Bike riders turning left must either turn from the left lane or yield to all traffic, both in their lane and coming the other way, before turning;

* Bike riders are required to signal a turn by hand at least 100 feet before turning;

* Bike riders may not ride more than two abreast on regular roads, and they may not carry more passengers than their bikes are designed to carry;

* At night, bikes must have a white light on front and red reflectors in the back, and new bikes also require side and pedal reflectors; and

* Bike riders must give the right-of-way to pedestrians on a sidewalk and, when parked on a sidewalk, bikes cannot impede foot traffic.

These rules are designed to make sure the bike rider and others stay safe.
